Golf Foreplay is the perfect guide for novices who need to know the basic rules, etiquette, and fundamentals of the game. This entertaining book helps get readers up-to-speed on all the fine points that one usually has to learn by trial and error – or (if one is lucky) from a golf buddy willing to share his or her hard-won knowledge. More than the standard "rules and etiquette" book, Golf Foreplay also contains in-depth coverage regarding equipment, accessories, courses, tournaments, and golf terms. Listings of the golf courses, players, golf magazines, and golf movies every golfer should know round out the information included in this engaging introduction to the game. With his lively, humorous approach, lawyer, radio personality and avid golfer Ken Altshuler fills readers in on all the basic information that every rookie golfer needs to know from tee markers, to order of putting, to what not to wear, to how to play fair on the fairway. A comprehensive roundup of golf terms, as well as fun golf trivia makes this title the perfect complement to the golfer’s shelf of instructional books.

Golf Foreplay eBook Ken Altshuler
Overall, a really helpful, fun read about the stuff you need to know before you switch from just taking lessons or hitting balls on the driving range to actually playing golf. You learn about golf etiquette and customs on the course, as well as enough history, lingo and humor so you can be part of a golf conversation. He's also brave enough to take on the subject of how the handicap system works.I took off a star because Altshuler is a decade or so behind in learning to welcome women to golf. When he's conscious about it, he does okay, mentioning a couple of women among the sport's stars, and encouraging men to consider taking lessons from women's pros. But sometimes his "old school" thinking takes over. Example: "You may notice that golf professionals always wear long pants. This is not because they have knobby knees. It is because it is a requirement of their professional golf association (PGA)." Whoa, I say to myself, that's not true of women pros! Later in the paragraph he talks about women garb, but it's too late...he's already dissed the gals. How about the section on "Golf tournaments" where he claims, "Any golfer, professional or amateur, who has a handicap of 1.4 or lower may attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open." Wrong. Perhaps forgivable if he added a section on the LPGA tour, but he didn't. Ken, please update the book to correct the misinformation and include the LPGA and I'll buy THAT edition for all my golfing friends.

Golf Foreplay eBook Ken Altshuler Reviews
From the title to the final page Ken Altshuler has created a must read book focusing how to have fun playing golf.
Even after playing golf for 35 years I found so many insights and facts about golf that I couldn't wait for the next chapter. Ken makes it easy for the new and veteran golfer to understand the rules of golf. Each chapter begins with a laugh out loud joke to set the stage of what you are about to read and something to share the next time you play.
If you are new to golf or looking for a way to entice your spouse, child or firend to take up the game, Golf Foreplay is the perfect gift. The reader will have confidence and insight when playing with more experienced golfers.
Ken covers the basics of the rules and most especially the etiquette of golf which will miminze those uncomfortable moments.
The boook is sprinkled with facts, pictures and antedotes to support the more complex aspects of the game so you can see examples of the rules being explained in words.
Unlike most golf books trying to re-engineer your swing Golf Foreplay only seeks to inform and entertain you to have a more enjoyable experience on the golf course.
This book is a great gift for any occasion and for anyone! Ken's love of the game and great sense of humor is the heart and soul of Golf Foreplay!
Golf Foreplay is a fun, informative book that explains all the basics of the game in a light, easily digestible manner. For a short book (just over 200 pages), Altshuler packs in a lot of information on a wide range of topics, even some on history and golf organizations. Rules and etiquette are a main focus. The sections which may have been the most beneficial to me include tournaments and betting games. I'm still a novice, and no one has explained these to me before.
Each chapter begins with a golf joke, setting the stage for fun as well as education. The illustrations are great, as well as the "trivia breaks" like all-time records Topics range from which club to use when, how to drop, scoring rules, and what not to wear. The layout, chapters, and sub-heading are easy to follow. Altshuler is highly entertaining, and no one who enjoys golf would be bored by this book. Some of the best advice he gives to the reader comes in the last paragraph where he reminds us that golf is a game, and games are supposed to be fun. Enjoy!
I am 3/4's thru and have found it to be funny, interesting, informative and a very good read. I am even going to get the book version for my Dad to read. An absolute for any golfer and a good review of the etiquette of golf and good manners that I have seen lacking on several golf courses lately!
This is the golf book I have been looking for. This a great book for those new to the game and veterans alike. The book describes all aspect of golf from history of the game to rules and regs to etiquette and even types of common golging betting games. If you golf and notice you don't know all the lingo get this book it will break down the game of golf in an easy and funny manner. I will keep it in my library as a reference.
Good book for beginners, people who have no clue of the rules. I have just played with friends. No serious play. What an eye opener when I joined a couple golf groups!! I had no clue of the rules. This book provided much needed information now that I play organized golf. It's a simple read, well written & very funny. I recommend it to all beginner golfers - and maybe some that I've played with who think they know what they're doing on a course but obviously don't. Like PACE OF PLAY!
There are literally thousands of golf books on the market today. Books that analyze every aspect of the swing, books about golfers, and books about where to play. Golf Foreplay fills an important niche for golfers at all levels; the beginner to the touring pro. It covers every aspect of the game except how to hit the ball and score.
Ken Altshuler has done a terrific job in making what could be a boring dull read into an entertaining fun and at times self deprecating look at the game we all love.
I highly recommend the book for anyone interested in the game of golf.
